Random Old Picture Update

Again, these pictures are from my phone, and that's why some of them are so old.

New haircut and highlights from the beginning of February.

First day of preschool in September.

She wanted to tie her straps together. I don't know why.

Adam went to an optometry conference and was gone for a few days. This is the kids reactions to him coming home. They sure missed their daddy!

First time on the swing. He loved it!

Canada vs USA

We were so excited to watch the gold medal Olympic hockey game the other week. The pressure was on to deliver after the previous loss to the USA. Also, we were getting some unpleasant comments from some American friends about losing, so we needed to win.

Luckily we had some good luck charms. My brother Travis loves us so much and sent us some official Canadian Olympic clothes. A t-shirt for Adam, myself, and Lizzy, and a super cute sweater for Gabe. Also an awesome, super soft scarf (ooh nice alliteration if I say so myself). They came just in time, a day before the game. We donned the clothes and skated to gold-medal victory! Woo-hoo!

After the game.

Lizzy shouting, "we're number one!" (at our promptings... of course)

Here's a stunning play by play for those of you unfortunate to miss it.

The fight was fierce...
We were up 2-0...
Then we we were tied at the very last second...
It goes to over time...

Crosby shoots...

He scores!!

And we win the Gold, 3-2 in OT.

Blossoms

Here are a few pictures, as promised, from the warm day the other week. (Warning, these come from my phone, so I hope the quality will be ok on the blog and that you can still see them all right).

The blossoms are just starting to come out on the trees. I love it! Now the trees are quite in a full bloom. I'll have to get another picture of that. The other day as Lizzy and I went to go check the mail, the petals and blossoms were falling to the ground from a gentle breeze. It looked like it was snowing pink.

Close up (albeit a fuzzy one).

Tulips starting to open in some random person's garden.

Gabe enjoying the sunshine. I can't believe those sunglasses stayed on the whole time we were at the park. An amazing feat!

Shorts

It is a beautiful day today. I wore shorts... in February! The trees are starting to blossom and I saw tulips in bloom. I love Oregon!
Pictures to come soon when our internet is up and running (borrowing a firend's right now).

Finally!

Finally a little sun today (well for 20 minutes anyway) and no rain. We went to the park! Hooray! I hope this is the cure for my cabin fever. To understand how much we needed this, this is what Lizzy said when she was swinging,
"This is so fun! I am the happiest girl ever! I am the happiest girl in the world!"
That was shouted at the top of her lungs.
Needless to say, we had a lot of fun.

Blah, Blah, Blech

The only word to describe the weather of late is: BLECH!

I would much prefer snow than this infernal rain. And it's not even pouring, just drizzle and showers off and on. But it keeps everything wet and cold, and that keeps us in the house. All the time. I think I'm getting cabin fever. And to exacerbate the problem, I have no vehicle. Adam commutes to work for this rotation and the kids and I are left home with no transportation and nothing really in walking distance.

Lizzy is bored with being home, I am bored with being home, and Gabe doesn't really know the difference.
We were going to go to the park today, but it started raining again.

I can't wait until we move again in a couple weeks back to Oregon for our last rotation. We are going to be close to some very awesome friends (the Swifts), so we will not lack for entertainment. Also we will have lots more friends a half hour away. Yay! Friends nearby! Lizzy is counting down the days until she gets to see Conrad again.

So, until then we must contiue with the blah, blah blech weather and boredom.

"Duty And Desire" book review

This is the second in a trilogy by Pamela Aidon that covers Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice from Mr. Darcy's point of view. The first is called, An Assembly Such As This, which I also gave 4 stars to.
If you are a fan of Pride and Prejudice, you will also be a fan of the "Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman" series.

Duty and Desire (Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman, #2) Duty and Desire by Pamela Aidan

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a great sequel to "An Assembly Such as This." Duty and Desire covers Darcy's "silent time" in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, when he is away from Elizabeth and among his friends and family.

In this second book of the trilogy we get to learn more about Darcy and especially about his relationship with his sister, Georgiana. There is also an added mystery plot that is very intruiging, but made me think more of Austen's Northanger Abbey, than Pride and Prejudice.

Although Elizabeth doesn't make a physical appearance in the novel, she is very much there in spirit haunting Darcy's daydreams and thoughts, as Darcy tries to get over her, but ends up even more in love.

I am very interested in reading the conclusion of the trilogy and can't wait to get started.
