Holiday Adventures!

We had a great time this Christmas season. First we went to Raymond, AB where my parents moved this year and spent Christmas with my family. It was really nice to see everyone again. I think it was the first time we were all together since my wedding! We also got to meet my brother's fiancee which was really nice. She seems like a great girl and suits Eldon nicely.

While we were in Raymond, my parents hired a photographer to get some family pictures. It was nice having us all there together. Here are a few pictures of us. Lizzy had a hard time doing a nice smile for the camera, instead making a spectacular, almost scary grin. It was quite amusing.
I especially love the one of the little girls twirling in their new fancy dresses.

We had a hard time getting up to Canada though. We were able to get out of Portland before the snow really hit, but we didn't get very far. About two hours from home, driving through the Gorge, the throttle cable in our car snapped. We were able to pull over to the side of the highway and call a tow truck to take us to the nearest town. The town was this dinky little place with nothing there. The mechanic was already closed, so we had to spend the night in a very little, gross motel. When we opened the door to the motel, it was colder inside than out (quite a feat I assure you). There was something brown on the carpet in one corner, the bathroom was all tiled floor, a toilet, a shower head and a drain. Just stand next to the toilet and have a shower if you want. The water was brown and silty, and didn't get warm and it didn't get clear either after running it for half an hour. It was absolutely disgusting! We didn't even brush our teeth or wash our faces becasue it was so gross. Lizzy didn't understand why we weren't brushing our teeth and got upset because she loves to do that so much.
The next day we were able to fix the car and get on the road again just after lunch. The road conditions were terrible as it snowed all night from the storm we were trying to outrun. We slowly made our way to Spokane, then had to stop for the night again because the roads were impassible. We later found out that we were stuck in the middle of the worst winter storm that Washington has ever had!
The next day we finally made it to Canada (and -30 C) and were able to relax and enjoy our holidays. So a one day journey took a tedious 3 days! Luckily the drive home from BC was uneventful and easy.
For New Year's we went to Adam's family's house in Salmon Arm, BC. We got to see all of his family too and it was great. After a week with them, we went to Chilliwack and visited with Adam's sister and her new baby and her family. We got to go to the baby blessing which was an extra bonus.
Overall we had a wonderful vacation (despite travelling difficulites) and enjoyed visiting with our families.
