So tonight I hosted the Jane Austen book club from my ward. I have to say it was a smashing success. Well, I could have had more people, but at least there was more than last time! This past month we read Emma. I haven't read it in a few years at least and I was surprised at how much I had forgotten. It was a very good read and I have been using "Austen lingo" ever since (see my other blog "The Funny Sayings of Lizzy" with the link on the right side of the page).
Jane AustenFor the book club tonight, we decided that we might get more people involved if we watched the movie too. So we discussed the book a bit... a very little bit.... and then enjoyed Emma and Mr. Knightley whilst eating brownies and fresh veggies.
Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma WoodhouseI am such a Jane Austen fan that in preparation for the book club I laid out all of my Austen books and movies. Then I went the extra mile and searched for pictures on the internet. I created an Austen slideshow for a screen saver so we could have some suitable pictures to view on the computer. I am such a dork!! I tried to include some of those pictures here, but alas, most would not download (well none of Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightley anyway).
If you are in love with Austen as I am, then I suggest a very good, funny book that you would probably enjoy. It is called "Austenland" by Shannon Hale (known for "The Goose Girl" and "Princess Academy"... both very good). Check it out here: http://www.squeetus.com/stage/books_austen.html
You will enjoy it!
So that was my evening of Austen and fun! Maybe next time I will have something more interesting.

I'm glad it was a success! Sorry I couldn't make it, but glad it went well. You really liked Austenland? I had a really hard time getting through it! Though I love, LOVE Jane Austen.
